Having trouble remembering a password? Who could blame you – there are as many different sets of requirements are there are websites. This one needs a symbol and a number, that one a lowercase letter and an uppercase letter, this one needs 8+ characters but that one needs under 10... who can keep them all straight? No one, that's who!

The merits of these requirements are hotly debated. In theory they make passwords harder to crack by creating many more possible combinations, but in practice they often force users to revert to repetitive and predictable patterns.

What isn't debated, though, is the need (or lack thereof) to keep these requirements hidden. Any determined hacker could easily find out the password requirements, just as I've done in the making of this database. Websites should emblazon their password requirements right there on the login page, to help you remember and thus prevent resetting your password over and over. Until then, this database will have to suffice.
